I can't believe first quarter is almost over! All of first quarter grades will be in and updated on Friday, so don't forget to check out Mastery Connect. The grades that are posted on there will be what we will discuss at Parent/Teacher Conferences on Oct. 31st through Nov. 3rd. I will send everyone a reminder email on their day and time in the next couple of days. I will also be sending home a parent letter this week showing you your child's reading level.
I want to thank everyone for helping out and making the kids Fall Party such a blast. You can thank me later for sending them back home to you all sugared up ;)
This week in the classroom...
I will be out of the classroom Wednesday and Thursday this week because of meetings. I will still have my Dojo up and will still be available if you need anything. If your child's transportation changes on either of those days, I would call the office just in case I don't get your message in time. I hate that I have to be gone two days in a row, but hoping I won't need any more subs for awhile after that.
Reading: The students just took their first quarter reading assessment (posted in Mastery Connect), so check those out! We are moving on to informational text now and will be working on main idea, summarizing, sequencing, author's purpose, text features, etc.
HOMEWORK: I have been sending a Weekly Reading Homework packet home with each student. This was not "homework" but it was a chance to do some extra reading and get a Book It coupon for the extra (easy) work. Every student needs to be reading AT LEAST 20 minutes at home each night. This weekly homework is a really easy way to document your child's reading and earn some free personal pan pizzas. Easy dinner night idea!
Writing: We are finishing our realistic fiction stories this week and will be taking our formative writing assessment this week as well.
Math: We are still working on multiplying 4 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. This week will be a big review/wrap up of this skill and strategies we've been doing. Next week the students will take their test and move on to 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication.
Social Studies: We finished up our ecosystem unit and started working on social studies. Last week we covered map skills (cardinal direction, map keys, map scales, and coordinate grids). We will work on Missouri regions and landforms next and that should take us through October.
